The history of the castle dates back to the times of King Wenceslaus II, and its full development took place during the reign of Władysław Łokietek.

Although the castle was destroyed in the 17th century, the tower has survived and later served as a prison in the 18th century until its liquidation after the first partition of Poland. For centuries, it also served as the seat of the Czchów Starosty, managing the administration of royal estates.

A stroll through Czchów should also lead to the Gothic Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is a magical place that was built on the site of a Romanesque stone temple. Elements of this former building have been incorporated into the eastern wall and the Gothic sconces of the presbytery, giving it a unique charm.

This church was built around the mid-14th century and later expanded in the 15th century. The interior of the church is adorned with three Gothic portals, painted scenes from the life of Mary and Christ, and Renaissance tombs of Kaspar Wielogłowski and his wife Magdalena.

The presbytery houses exceptional and most valuable Gothic murals that were discovered during restoration work. These unique works of art have been conserved and amaze visitors with their beautiful themes, including scenes related to the life of the Virgin Mary, the Apostles, the Passion of Christ, and the Resurrection.
